Developers pay $1,500,000 in Las Vegas

The developers of a condominium in Las Vegas have agreed to pay more than $1,500,000 to resolve a Justice Department lawsuit alleging that they had not complied with the accessibilty requirements of the Fair Housing Act.  Torino Construction Corporation and several other companies contructed the Canyon Willow Condominiums in Las Vegas.  The Justice Department sued Torino and other developers, alleging that Canyon Willow did not meet the design   and construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act.

Under the terms of a consent decree agreed upon by the parties, the defendants will pay $1,420,000 to make the complex accessible to people with disabilities.  They will also pay $75,000 to compensate peolpe who were harmed and a $5,000 civil penalty.

The defendants did not admit liability.
