President's Message

One Step to Recovery
It is with great excitement that I introduce a new initiative we launched last month at GLVAR called "One Step to Recovery." You may have already heard about it. The program is simple. I'm asking every member to make a commitment to add back in your monthly budget at least one discretionary purchase that you eliminated due to current economic conditions.
This program will help our community, help our economy, and has the potential to help our own businesses recover.
Many of our friends, neighbors and local businesses continue to struggle through what has been a painful period in our local economy. As local REALTORS®, we can be part of the solution. Go to a movie. Go out to dinner one more time each month. Take your pet to the groomer. With more than 11,000 local members, we can add at least 11,000 purchases to the local economy each month. In doing so, we'll help generate local jobs and boost consumer confidence.
This program also provides an amazing opportunity for your business. Use it as a marketing tool. While you are visiting local merchants, tell them about you and your business. Pass out your card and let businesses and business contacts know you're doing your part to help the economy. Tell them you chose them as your extra purchase this month. Here are a few talking points you can use:
-REALTORS® are out in the community doing their part to help restore our economy.
-REALTORS® support local businesses.
-Business names will be broadcast via social media outlets.
-Housing market reports continue to be confusing. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
Make this campaign fun and productive. Challenge other offices to a friendly competition of the best marketing story inspired from this program.
GLVAR is using social media, among other ways, to spread the word about the campaign. Click the "like" button on our new Facebook page to show your support for the "One Step to Recovery" program and use the twitter hashtag #1Step2012 to help promote the campaign. Share what you are doing to help the local economy. Where did you go? What purchases did you put back into your routine? Also, share your business success stories.
I hope you embrace this program and join me and encourage your fellow members to make a commitment to take one step to help our community recover. If we all band together to make one more purchase a month, we can help deserving local businesses stay in business. It has to start somewhere.
