REALTORS® Care

Community Service Award
“REALTORS® Who Care”

The Greater Las Vegas Association of REALTORS® “Community Service Award” recognizes ongoing efforts of individual REALTORS® who are making exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in our community. Among the activities that qualify for consideration are: involvement in affordable housing issues, improving the quality of education in an area, supporting initiatives aimed at a community’s youth, and work on any other community-based programs.

Recipients will be selected on an ongoing basis by the GLVAR Board of Directors.

“We created this award to reward REALTORS® for contributing to our community, something so many of them do without any recognition,” said GLVAR President Devin Reiss. “By spotlighting these REALTORS® Who Care, we hope to show the public at large the positive difference REALTORS® make and to inspire REALTORS® in Southern Nevada to give back to our community.”

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees must be current members in good standing of GLVAR. Nominees must have been members of GLVAR for a minimum of one year at the time of nomination.
  • Nominees should have contributed to a program that improves livability of our community. Those activities are not limited to real estate or housing issues, and may include such things as crime prevention, youth mentoring, and homelessness prevention.
  • Nominees should have made a significant contribution of personal time, but contributions of money, materials, or other resources will be considered by the Board of Directors as well.
  • Some portion of the nominee’s community work must have taken place in the 12 months preceding the nomination, but the Board of Directors will also consider ongoing efforts outside that time frame that demonstrate a depth of commitment.
  • Nominees should be able to document the results of their involvement through published reports and/or testimonials from the organization they served or the people they helped.

How Can I Make my Application Stand Out?
The essay and the testimonial letters are often the most valuable portions of the application. The following tips provide insight into what we are looking for and can help you submit the most effective essay:

  • Be as specific as possible. For example, give a close estimate of the number of hours volunteered, the number of people the nominee helped, the number of dollars raised, etc. Vague words like “countless,” “incalculable” or even “thousands” are of very little use to evaluate the nomination.
  • Don’t rely on adjectives. Superlatives like “kindest,” “most dedicated,” “most generous” – though certainly true – don’t help evaluate a nominee’s achievements. Instead, describe something the nominee did that illustrates how kind or dedicated he or she is.
  • Don’t be modest. If you are uncomfortable talking about your achievements, have someone else write the essay portion for you and/or provide detailed testimonials. Testimonials from someone you’ve helped are particularly valuable.
  • Focus on your accomplishments, not the organization’s in general. We need to evaluate the impact that the nominee has personally made. Don’t make the mistake of only emphasizing how much good the organization has done; instead, focus on what the nominee has done for the organization.
