GLVAR hosting Oct. 6 Green & Recycling Festival for the public

LAS VEGAS – As part of its push for a greener Southern Nevada, the Greater Las Vegas Association of REALTORS® (GLVAR) is inviting its members and the public to a Green & Recycling Festival on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its 1750 E. Sahara Avenue headquarters.

The public is invited to bring all sorts of items that can be recycled, including:

• Paper products, including personal and business documents, checks, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, playing cards and more. (Limited to six letter size storage boxes per car.)

• Electronic and computer equipment, including laptop and desktop computers, keyboards, monitors, printers, iPods, iPads, copiers, typewriters, CDs, DVDs, videotapes, hard drives, cables, cable TV boxes, and more.

• Aluminum, plastic, glass and metal cans, bottles and containers.

• Casino chips.

“We’re encouraging everyone to come to the GLVAR building on Oct. 6 to recycle the things we all have around our homes and offices,” said GLVAR President Kolleen Kelley. “We’ll have community partners and vendors there to properly recycle of all these materials. We’ll also have experts on hand to introduce green-minded products and services that can help us live in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. We’ll also have information on the most recent rebates, incentives and financing programs that can help local REALTORS® educate their clients and the public about ways to make our homes more energy-efficient.”

Partners and sponsors of the event include Shred-It, Republic Services and Pulte Homes. A portion of the recycling revenue from the event will be donated to UNLV’s Solar Decathlon team, which will be there seeking support for an upcoming competition in Irvine, Calif. where the team of UNLV students will be showcasing a solar-powered home it is designing.

Those who attend the free event can enter drawings for various prizes and will also be able to register to vote.
